Public Bar & Dining Room

The fitout is stunning. The location one of the best. Public’s vibe has transformed the corner of Flinders Way and Franklin Street into a special spot exuding warmth and camaraderie.

The intricate new fitout—arguably one of Canberra’s finest—has already won an award. The restaurant features endearing photos of Manuka from times gone by and the rustic 1920s character of the colourful pub area welcomes you like an old friend. Natural light floods in through the atrium and if you look closely you’ll find carefully preserved architectural elements of the original building.

Foodies will love Public’s strong food culture.

Kickstart your weekend and public holidays with light breakfast options or savoury or sweet dishes. The pub is the ideal place to enjoy a drink and share dishes like the sashimi plate of export grade fish, mouth-watering Szechuan prawns with fresh chilli, coriander and lime, or zippy ‘bee sting’—fried jalapeno chilli filled with feta, lime and pine nuts. Heartier pub fare will satisfy those craving more, like Public’s modern taken on the good old Aussie beef pie floater.

The restaurant offers a more formal dining experience with its own tasty lineup of dishes. To-die-for grilled Leader prawns with pickled cucumber, crisp noodles and chilli stars, as do mains like Barossa Valley chicken with sage and prosciutto, milk fed veal medallions and market fresh fish. Sweet endings include the decadent peanut butter and chocolate parfait.

Public’s wine list features light, fresh whites through to more opulent varieties and highly glugable reds through to the big, bold and beautiful.

Join with friends or family at communal tables, in the cozy living room with its floor-to-ceiling fireplace or perched on a bar stool and watch the world go by. Public’s large outdoor seating areas have high canopies offer cool shade and heaters keep you toasty warm.
