The warmer weather is well and truly here! So to keep you cool and calm we have put together a list of five different ways to chill down during the hot days ahead.

Enjoy an icy sweet treat

Via Dolce Pasticceria
106 Bunda Street, Canberra City

Via Dolce boasts a bountiful selection of gelato flavours to keep you cool this summer! Indulge in a classic vanilla gelato, or perhaps a fruity sorbet like Lemon or Mango.

Mövenpick
154/43 Eastlake Parade, Kingston Foreshore

Located on the Kingston Foreshore, Mövenpick is the perfect spot to escape the heat! With an extensive selection of delicious ice-cream flavours, iced beverages and desserts, you’ll feel perfectly chilled out after a trip to Mövenpick – and with some take-home packs available in its fridge, why not take home a treat to enjoy later?

Pack a picnic

Casuarina Sands

Casuarina Sands is the perfect spot to cool off with a picnic and a dip in the river. The area offers barbecue facilities, sheltered areas to keep out of the sun, drinking water and picnic tables. So why not bring the whole family along for a fun day out!

Cotter Bend

Cotter’s location offers a small sandy beach area along the waterfront – the perfect spot to hang out when the weather warms up. Equipped with barbecue facilities, picnic tables, toilets and drinking water, this is a great spot to enjoy a novel in the shade or a quick dip in the waterhole.

Take a dip

Gungahlin Leisure Centre
71 The Valley Avenue, Gungahlin

The Gungahlin Leisure Centre boasts an amazing range of facilities for cooling off this summer. With a 50-metre indoor pool, toddler pool and 25-metre leisure pool, there is something for everyone at the centre this summer!

Lakeside Leisure Centre
Anketell Street & Athlon Drive, Greenway

Located in Canberra’s Southside this is another perfect family-friendly swimming spot. The Tuggeranong Centre has a shallow area for young kids, café, grassy outdoor area with shade, as well as a 50-metre lap pool.

Big Splash Waterpark
1 Catchpole Street, Macquarie

For something a little more active and fun, why not try out Big Splash Waterpark? With a range of activities on offer from swimming pools, family areas with inflatables, water slides and an outlet that sells food, coffees and ice-cream to keep you going, this is the perfect venue to keep the kids entertained while also providing parents with some much-needed respite.

Sip on something healthy

Eighty/Twenty Food
1/18 Lonsdale Street, Braddon

Eighty Twenty in Braddon focuses on a simple philosophy of balance, with an amazing selection of guilt-free smoothies, including the Coffee + Cacao – a delicious mix of dates, almond milk, espresso, coconut flesh and chia!

Local Press Café
81 Giles Street, Kingston

Local Press on the Kingston Foreshore is a picturesque spot to sit under the shade of an umbrella and enjoy a cold press juice! Freshly made onsite, there are a variety of cool drinks to keep you hydrated in the heat. The Essential Greens (Kale, Spinach, parsley, lemon and apple) is my personal favourite on a hot day!

Double Shot
7/18 Duff Place, Deakin

Double Shot in Deakin has an extensive collection of cold drinks, frappes, smoothies and juices to keep you refreshed on a summer’s day. If you’re feeling a little indulgent why not try its mocha frappe!

Teddy Picker’s
53/65 Constitution Avenue, Campbell

Recently opened in Campbell, Teddy Picker’s has an awesome selection of cold-pressed juices that you can even take home with you! My personal favourite is the red juice – a sweet, refreshing blend of watermelon, beetroot and strawberries.

Road trip!

Eurobodalla Coast

The Eurobodalla Coast includes the northern part of Batemans Bay through to Moruya and Tilba Tilba. Apart from pristine beachside locations, there are some other amazing activities to be had on this coastal adventure. In Mogo visit the zoo or The Colony, a 1950s style Gold Rush town and theme park, perfect for the kids! Or visit the Bodalla Dairy shed, a cottage-style rustic café and restaurant for some delicious dairy treats!

Sapphire Coast

Further south on the Sapphire coast from Bermagui to Eden and Merimbula is another relaxing coastal destination. With massive bush lands and reserves along the coastline, the beach and towns are surrounded by lush greenery and national parks. If you’re feeling a bit more daring, head to Australia’s Coastal Wilderness Adventures for a snorkeling tour and immerse yourself in the ocean’s beauty.

Shoalhaven Coast

On the Northern side at the Shoalhaven Coast is a beautiful array of beachside towns including Jervis Bay, where the whitest sand in the world can be found at Hyams Beach. Enjoy a day at the beach, or venture out on a sea kayak excursion from Huskisson to soak up the summer sun!
