One step into Weston’s Taste Turkish and you’ll want to be calling owner Ozden ‘Anne’ (mum in Turkish). She gives a warm welcoming that will make you feel right at home. In my case, she wasn’t interested in having a chat until she fed me first! Obviously, I was totally cool with that. Together with husband Mehmet Akbulut the pair put together an extensive menu of all the Turkish favourites, plus some extras from their home kitchen.

“I’ve been cooking Turkish food for 25 years now, I’m always in the kitchen because it’s my passion.” Says Ozden. “I bring my home cooked foods to the public by introducing three dishes I make at home. One is a sautéed spinach dish which is vegan. It’s very filling because it has rice through it and you enjoy it with garlic sauce and dip your Turkish bread in.”

Slow cooked okra stew with chickpeas and a traditional Turkish slow cooked lentil kofte which is served on grilled bread or wrapped in cos lettuce are some other vegetarian favourites – also perfect for winter.

Kebab’s and snack packs (HSP) are what everyone is asking for at lunch. Loaded chips with mixed doner kebab meats, a generous sprinkle of cheese and the trio of barbecue, garlic and chilli sauce. While the HSP craze went viral in 2016, there is no signs of the trend slowing down. Be cautious in ordering a large, this pizza box serving will feed the whole family (and then some!)

When dinner hits Taste Turkish can’t keep up with banquet orders.  Probably because you get ridiculous amounts of food and options for great prices. Dips and fresh Turkish bread, zucchini balls, salad and rice, chicken and lamb skewers, kofte and Pide. The type of meals which also ensure leftovers! yum.

Taste Turkish has ensured all their dishes are accessible for takeaway, so stop by after work and surprise the entire family when you return home with bulk delicious foods. They even have dessert gift packs and Turkish coffee, apple tea and chai.
