flare @ the belconnen gallery
The National Multicultural Fringe Festival grew from humble beginnings into a major festival in its own right over the course of its six year life. From 2004-2006 it was held outside the Street Theatre on Childers St. In 2007 it was relocated to Civic Square where its program, audience, stages and infrastructure continued to grow. ‘pling photographed every Fringe and says that the ten pieces he’s exhibiting in Flare will offer the viewer “…a sense of something that came from the rough outdoors into a more theatrical environment”. 'pling is at home photographing rough environments. He describes the National Multicultural Fringe as having “a vibrant, happy atmosphere that involved all of Canberra’s Fringe artists.” For 'pling, photography is a labor of love. Director Jorian Gardner will open the exhibition at 6:30 on Wednesday February 24. Come dressed in your finest Fringe attire! All welcome and light refreshments will be provided. Exhibition will be open daily from 9am - 4:30pm.
The Whitlams @ UC REFECTORY
Catch the Whitlams live at UC Presented by UC Live! With Special Guests Whitely, Gosling & local band Margaret Helen King. The Whitlams are one of Australia's favourite bands whose appeal reaches audiences of all ages and tastes. With lyrics described as having a "charming cynicism" and enhanced by an instinct for poignant melody, they have become a staple of the local music scene. The Whitlams' success has always been about the emotional clout of the songs, so it was no surprise when demand rocketed for the performances where the songs were presented without their rock adornments. After a run of shows backed by Australia's best Symphony Orchestras, December saw The Whitlams playing three sold out shows at the Opera House with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. So don't miss this exciting show! Grab your ticket now from ticketek.com.au. Doors open at 7.30pm. Begins at 8.00pm. For more information visit uclive.com.au.
