Mike Price Trio & Vertical @ Llewellyn Hall

The School of Music 2010 Premier Concert Series kicks off on Wednesday 31st March with a dynamic jazz double bill in Llewellyn Hall. Mike Price, guitarist and Head of Jazz Studies at the A.N.U teams up with his ANU colleagues to make up the Mike Price Trio. Formed in 1998 the trio has been a mainstay of the A.C.T and N.S.W. jazz scene performing at festivals and noted jazz venues. The music is a blend of styles from blues tinged jazz reminiscent of guitar greats Kenny Burrell, Grant Green, and George Benson, through to the contemporary influences of guitarists such as John Abercrombie and Kurt Rosenwinkel. Also, don't miss Vertical, a tight quartet that has played in a variety of jazz venues and festivals in New South Wales, Canberra and Victoria, receiving excellent reviews of their concert performances. They play mostly original music influenced by different styles from funk/grooves, Latin and Straight-ahead modern jazz. Their repertoire also includes creative arrangements of songs by notable artists such as Sting, Cindy Lauper, Leonard Bernstein and Burt Bacharach. Vertical’s compositions leave plenty of room for improvisation, interplay and conversation between the musicians-always fresh and new. Begins at 7.30pm. Tickets cost $35, Concession $30, ANU students & children $20. For more information please visit ticketek.com.au or anu.edu.au/music. Don't miss these two great performances!
