National Youth Self Portrait Prize 2010

The National Portrait Gallery invites all young Australians aged between 18 and 25 to enter the National Youth Self-Portrait Prize 2010. A selection of entries, including the prize-winning work, will be displayed at the National Portrait Gallery and as an online exhibition from 17 July – 12 September 2010. With the generous support of the Tallis Foundation and the Association of Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (ADFAS), the National Portrait Gallery is offering a prize of $10,000 for the most outstanding self-portrait produced in the year preceding the prize.

Technology has been a major influence on art since the invention of the camera, particularly in the field of portraiture. The digital revolution of the 1980s-1990s has altered how portraits are made and what a portrait might be. This exhibition will explore how new ways of imaging reflect the individual in this digital world and the mechanisms of imaging that are used. The exhibition is open daily from 10.00am - 5.00pm, 22 May 2010 - 22 August 2010.
