The success of Canberra cricket has only gone one way over the past decade – up. From International games to the Big Bash, Canberra has consistently proven itself as a cricket loving capital.

So, what’s the next step in Canberra’s cricket evolution? Cameron French and Mark McConnell think Canberra deserves its own Big Bash team. McConnell, the mind behind the “Canberra Big Bash Bid Team” and French, Cricket ACT Chief Executive, are working tirelessly to turn Canberra’s dream of obtaining their own team into a reality.

With yet another sell-out crowd at the last Manuka oval game, French believes “it’s a step in the right direction for future content”.

“We’re delighted [with the crowd]. We know the Canberra community loves their cricket, whenever there is high-level elite content here it sells out,” French said.

“This is just another piece of the jigsaw for us to have more games here – whether that be international cricket or Big Bash games.”

Former Australian Vice-Captain Brad Haddin obviously agrees with him, being named as a Canberra Big Bash League Bid Ambassador alongside Lauren Phillips.
