The DESIGN Canberra Festival is running from 6-26 November, and design-lovers are being given the opportunity to bid on their very own piece of contemporary Canberra design.

The very first SELL OUT: Design Auction Party is being held on Friday 10 November, and a range of limited and one-off pieces from Canberra’s leading designers will be auctioned off on the night. The event will be emphasised by an incredible, experimental lighting design installation, put together by Matt Adey of House of Vnholy (Dark Mofo) fame.

The DESIGN Canberra auction party aims to encourage the community to celebrate the work of independent, local designers who push the boundaries of design practice, rather than mass-produced items derived from the most recent trends. Held at the Canberra Fitters Workshop, the event will bring together designers and makers who are experimental and inventive in their craft.

Almost all of the pieces to be displayed on the night are created by emerging and established local artists, designers and makers. Putting a spin on your standard auction night, these pieces will be auctioned via a live online bidding system, meaning anyone from around the world has a chance to bid on one of these special designs. Zoe Brand’s Sell Out disc pendant, which has been crafted especially for this event, will be auctioned live at the Fitter’s Workshop.

Some of the designers and works featured include: Tom Skeehan, Skeehan Studio, limited edition original HOSHI range (armchair, bench and ottoman); Silversmith Alison Jackson limited series of hand-formed earrings; Furniture designer Christina Bricknell ottomans and bench seats; Dan Lorrimer special edition two-tone Griffin Blueprint Dish; Geoff Farquhar-Still sculpture and prints; Simon Cotrell contemporary jewellery; Anna Gianakis minimalist porcelain vessels; Marilou Chagnaud sculptural paper works; Glass artist Kate Nixon’s cloche and dino vases; and Zoe Brand’s ‘Sell Out’ large disc pendant

The auction is currently open here, with bidding to close between 9pm and 10pm on Friday 10 November. Tickets for the live event at the Fitter’s Workshop can be purchased here. To find out more about the DESIGN Canberra festival, head to www.designcanberrafestival.com.au.
