I’m planning my wedding and I’m beginning to fret about our budget, which is looking to blow out. What are some quick tips I can keep in mind to cut costs, without having to stage a ‘budget’ wedding? -S Taylor, Gungahlin

Dear S Taylor,

It’s very easy for a few extra dollars to add up here or there. It’s okay to tweak it as you go along; just remember that if your actual costs go up on flowers that your costs also need to come down in another category.

Keep the engagement party at home. A great suggestion is champagne and tapas – this will keep alcohol and food costs to a minimum.

Design and make your own flowers and centrepieces. Select what’s in season, it’s bound to be the cheapest.

Have groomsmen wear suits instead of tuxedos. If you can get all of the men in your party to wear the same colour suit, they could forgo the tuxedos altogether.

Have a Friday wedding. While it may take a bit of work to get everyone off work in the late afternoon, the difference in cost and availability between Friday and Saturday afternoon is huge. The Mark Agency Events
