If you’ve been keeping a close eye on the International and Australian runways, and not on your wallet, then you’ll notice a BIG trend that has hit our stores and wardrobes all of a sudden.

This trend is all about pastels: pastel dresses, pastel skirts, and heck, even pastel accessories. Be warned though, this trend is trending fast, and its one that you certainly need to embrace.

Myer’s recent Spring/Summer 2014 -2015 Runway Show showed us exactly what to expect from the pastel trend for the upcoming season. A strong emphasis was on the words; playful, pretty and loads of colour in the form of pastel colour blocking.

Jennifer Hawkins absolutely took over the Myer show not only with her incredible pins, but also with her styling of both the Alex Perry and By Johnny pastel-themed outfits. It is clear that this has definitely inspired fashionistas to not only a) hit the gym, but also b) get their hands on some incredible pastel garments.

For those of you that are completely stuck as to what pastel colours you should opt for and how to wear the trend, here are a few ideas.

1. If you’re afraid to jump wholly on the pastel bandwagon, then colour blocking will still keep you on trend and on point. A tip is to wear darker shades on your bottom half, with lighter shades on the top half. This way you’re still flaunting the trend, but keeping it simple.

2. Wanting to steer away from looking like everyone else who is also following the trend? Then why not try some pastel accessories such as a clutch or handbag. You could even try using pastel chalk in your hair. This is a very cool way to mix up your look, and add a touch of personality.

3. This season, try and steer away from too much lace. Instead, opt for more clean cut garments. This could be in the form of high waisted shorts, or a pencil skirt that has a clean cut, but still fits in with the pastel look. Also, avoid obsessing over the detail, and opt for a more streamlined look.

4. If you start to feel overwhelmed with all the different colours and shades, then go back to the basics. If you tend to opt for black, white or more neutral shades, then try pairing pastels with what you know and wear best. Think pastel pinks, purples or blues with a pair of crisp, white shorts. Add a fresh, black blazer over the top to even out the look.

Finally, make sure you wear what’s right for you, colour, size and garment-type wise. The more confident you look and feel wearing this trend, the more it will show.
