Nostalgia is the word, the feeling, and the only way to describe the biggest trend for 2014: 90s Fashion!

The good news for fans of pre-Millennium vogue is that the Australian music and fashion industries are on the rise and events, festivals and shows are happening more regularly. This is especially throughout the Summer months, providing every chance to become more in touch with your personal style.

We finally have the chance to be innovative because being different is now the social norm. People are becoming more and more creative and daring with their day-to-day ensembles. This means there really is no right or wrong – it’s all about confidence and knowing the right time and place to wear certain pieces.

This is perfect, given we will be seeing (well…wearing) more past trends incorporating modern twists and funky alterations this year. However, the 90s is the most wearable and popular trend by far.

Given the 90s (obviously) went for a decade, there are so many different styles make up the overall trend. Pick and choose from these stand-out garments you will see making a comeback in retail stores all over the globe.

– Crop Tops
– Plaid
– Lace
– Flannelette shirts
– Abstract, colourful and loud prints on oversized button-up shirts.
– Workout-tights or other gym clothes being worn as (or with) a ‘day/night’ outifit
– Bodycon Dresses
– Denim EVERYTHING
– High-waisted Jeans
– Overalls
– Bomber Jackets
– Hats and Beanies
– Doc Martens, flat wedge shoes and Jelly Sandals

Things to do to ‘polish’ your 90s look…

– Wear your socks with your sandals – the frillier the better.
– Buy a jumper with Bart Simpson or Spongebob Squarepants’ face all over it.
– Wear Denim on Denim
– Tie a flannelette shirt around your waist – even if it’s hot

Things that were 90s but are NOT making a come back:

– Butterfly clips
– Fluoro (seriously enough already!!!)
– Bumbags (shouldn’t have been there in the first place)
– Crappy, faded or ill fitting “vintage”
– Peddle pushers
