Friday nights. They are the start of the weekend, the best night to wind down and catch up with friends, and the perfect opportunity to head straight from work to the local bar and still be home early enough to flop on the couch and watch some telly.

We wanted to find out the best places to go for a dabble on a Friday evening…so we asked you!

These were the top six suggestions:

1. Treehouse
One of the newbies that suits more than one crowd. Downstairs is modern with a warm earthy ambience, and upstairs has an elegant classic 1920’s feel with a modern twist. Settle in with a glass of something wicked and watch the crowd wander in.

2. Western Basement
Craft beers and comfort food in a funky industrial designed basement complete with dim low lights and greenery. Grab a craft beer or cider and treat yourself to some buffalo wings.

3. Digress
Cocktails, tapas and is a great way to start your weekend. There’s always something going on at Digress, and the entertainment is as diverse and interesting as the food.

4. Shorty’s
A modern and fun bar in the heart of the city with loads of vibe. The decor is quirky, with little details you may not notice straight away (have you seen the fly?). A great place for a beer, wine or snack (and people-watching while out on the deck).

5. The Museum Bar
A great place to sip on sparkling wine while watching the sun go down over the lake. It’s one of Canberra’s best vistas and offers a relaxed and calming atmosphere at the end of a hectic week.

6. Wilbur’s
On the corner at Hackett shops, this outdoor cafe shows there is plenty of life in the suburbs. Wilbur’s bar is a great place for food and a drink outside on the bar stools.
