This morning we were lucky enough to have an exclusive first look at the four key trends for the upcoming Autumn and Winter seasons at Canberra Centre.

The Guardians Of Style – who have now been revealed – graced us with their gorgeous mannequin style presence posing as renowned stylist, Colleen Cuneo described each look and where to buy each garment and accessory. Some of the brands presented today were Alex Perry (new to David Jones), Zara, Country Road, Mimco, Seed Heritage, Oroton, MJ Bale (for the guys), Ted Baker, Jason Brunsden and more!

The four key A/W14 trends on show this weekend are:

Modern Lady – A feminine silhouette which never really goes out of style. This season it’s all about the mid-century woman. Think full-skirts paired with a fitted knit or leather jacket, and pointed-toe heels to add the final touch. Colours include, white, creams, baby pinks and blush paired with gold and silver.

Oceanic – Cobalt, navy, teal and aqua-blue is big for Autumn/Winter ’14, recently seen all over fashion week runways. Blue is universally flattering, so don’t be afraid to mix your tones. If you’re less adventurous, blue also pairs beautifully with black or grey. Blues are a great colour to incorporate into evening-wear with gold or silver accessories.

Metallics – A red-carpet favourite for Naomi Watts and Cate Blanchett. You’ll find plenty of sparkly gold, silver and bronze pieces in stores this season. Metallic accessories are an easy way to start working the trend into your wardrobe. If you want to make a statement, a metallic skirt is perfect when paired with an understated sweater or shirt.

Leather Luxe – Leather – both faux and real – is staying around for another season. You will find leather pants, skirts, dresses and jackets which are very versatile wardrobe pieces and add instant edge to any outfit. Paired with basics or glimpses of fur (again, faux or real) they make for a great choice.

Print Clash – Stripes with florals. Polka dots with checks… Anything goes with this trend – so don’t be afraid to experiment. If you’re not comfortable going all out, start out small with different kinds of patterns in the same colour, or items with understated print e.g., polka dots and stripes.
