The Canberra Latin Dance Festival (CLDF) is heating up, and that’s not just because of the arrival of Spring weather. From Friday 17 – Sunday 19 October, the CDLF will bring some of the hottest dancers in the world as part of their three-day showcase of the energy and excitement of Latin dancing.

The nightly shows will feature some of the hottest dancers from around the world. Described as, “like watching an episode of So You think You Can Dance“, you will be thrilled at the skills of the international guests as the room is filled with feathers, colour, passion and the hypnotic rhythms of Latin dance. One pair, in particular, that you need to lookout for is Xandy Liberato and Evelyn Magyari.

Xandy Liberato, born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, is a good example of how dance is much more than a combination of steps. Not only does he activate every muscle in his body, he moves every fibre in his heart and soul.

His original and creative choreographies combine the essence of traditional Brazilian dances and how they have evolved over time, distinguishing him in the world of the dance. His ability to communicate his passion for Brazilian or contemporary dance and movement makes his works unique moments, full of life and emotion.

As well as being Xandy Liberato’s preferred partner, Evelyn Magyari is a proponent of the Zouk style that is taking the world by storm. For those unfamiliar, when not holding closed position, partners move around each other in an asymmetrical axis. Men hold strong “matador-like” poses while women “surrender” by letting the man’s movement direct their flexible bodies into each movement, hair swinging. It’s all very fluid and sensual.

Check out the clip of Xandy and Evelyn on this page for a clear demonstration of why you need to see them in action at this year’s festival. If you still need convincing as to the quality of this year’s festival, check out some of the testimonials form 2013:
