Shared spaces are not a new concept. But rather than a loose collection of desks with wifi, what if you could work in a multi-functional environment filled with equipment, mentors and a fully stocked bar?

Have we got your attention?

This is just part of the idea behind TCRIB, a new venue located in Fyshwick that is designed to provide all the tools needed for Canberra creative to grow their ideas and develop their talents. This is the main aim of creator and chair of the TCRIB committee, Dave Mailau who sees this as an exciting opportunity to develop the next crop of Canberra business and leaders.

“Our committee will identify really interesting business ideas and give them the support they need,” says Dave. “What I’m interested in seeing is our team nurture young Canberrans with an idea and a sense of ambition, and give them the skills they need to take the next step. We don’t expect people to be with us forever – just so long as we can help to grow them to head out on their own.”

So, in that sense, TCRIB falls along similar lines for co-creative workspaces. What sets TCRIB apart is the amount of infrastructure that underpins the activities of those working in the offices. “It’s great!” Dave says excitedly as he wanders through the part of the building set aside for events, functions and as a shared space where people can interact and share ideas.

“We’ve got heaps of equipment that can be utilised. A full runway for fashion parades and picture rails to hang artworks. There’s exercise equipment, three massive TVs, a fully licensed bar, pool tables, a DJ booth, photography and a recording studio… Everything! If you need a camera to take some shots of your work, we can supply those as well!”

The TCRIB committee is already taking applications for space via their Facebook page, and the interest has been much greater than expected. However, that doesn’t mean TCRIB is full. “The Committee will carefully look over each application to make sure they’re the right fit. We’ll look at every application we get based on its merits, so we want to hear from anyone who might be interested in using the space.”
