It’s easy to sit back and criticise the folk at Parliament House and everyone enjoys taking politicians down a peg or two. But have you ever thought that maybe you’re part of the problem?

MP tells the story of MP Ava Turner, played by Geraldine Turner, as she hires a new assistant and faces dealing with an incredibly delicate issue from two of her constituents.

While writing the play, Alana Valentine interviewed a number of people including Julie Bishop MP, Tanya Plibersek MP, Senator Kate Lundy, Annabel Crabbe, Laura Tingle and many more, and it was these accounts that shaped the story.

The witty and fast-paced script takes a look behind the scenes of politics and the relationships between members of parliament, journalists, public servants, electoral constituents, staff advisors and their family and friends.

The play is incredibly engaging and well written, and gives a raw and witty account of what life’s really like living in the nation’s capital.

If you’re a fan of the West Wing, don’t miss MP.

MP is playing at The Street Theatre until October 15th. Click Here to buy tickets now.
