Q&A: David Shillington

by Rahima Saikal 27 June 2012

We caught up with Raiders captain Dave Shillington and talked all things Canberra.

What is the best thing about winter in Canberra?

I go out for dinner a lot more in the winter time with my fiancé. It’s nice to wake up to a foggy morning because you know it is usually going to lead to a sunny day.

What is your favourite place to go out for a Sunday morning brunch?

Edgars in Ainslie is a regular of ours. It has a nice outdoor setting.

Where is the best place to go out on a Saturday night?

I normally would have a few beers at Tongue & Groove and then maybe on to North Bar afterwards. Both those venues have good music and a good crowd.

What else do you enjoy doing apart from playing footy?

I head back up to Sydney a lot (where I used to live) to visit family and friends and I take a lot of trips to the South Coast, Browlee in particular to do some fishing and surfing.

Who has been your most inspirational captain that you have played under?

Allan Tongue. He was inspirational because when he came off the field you could honestly say he couldn’t of given it anymore. He used his small body to his advantage.

What would you do if you could no longer play football anymore?

I originally started a PE Teaching degree and I only finished my first year before football took over. If I couldn’t play footy anymore I might go back to PE teaching or Junior Development.
