Tucked away in the heart of Manuka, those in the know have been enjoying the worldly fashion delights of Things of Desire (T.O.D) for more than 13 years.

Established photographer and stylist, Alan, and his counterpart Angela – an Emily Mc Pherson Fashion Design graduate, are the dynamic duo behind this gem of a store.

Both avid and passionate travellers, the two are known for roving across the globe and seeking out exclusive, mainly European brands for those true female fashionistas of Canberra.

“We buy everything by feel. If an item is made out of silk and angora for example, then it is extremely sumptuous to wear” says Angela.

Some of the global brands Things of Desire stock include Pianura Studio (Italy), Isabel De Pedro (Spain), Anatopik (France), Nori M (Japan), IKKS (France), BNG (Turkey), Maria Grazia (Italy) just to name a few. They are about to stock Iranian fashion designers, Melinda&Narina.

When asked what trends shoppers and fashion enthusiasts could expect to see this season, Alan replies with great gusto, “beautiful trends! We’ve just received new deliveries from Spain, Milan, and Paris, with lots of reds, greys, chocolate and cream dominating the collections. The looks are extravagant, and elaborate.

“We’re also about to receive a lot of funky business suits, but they’re not your classic winter style – they’re more like classics with a twist!”

In June, the duo are travelling to the famous Pret A Porter in Paris to source a lot of their clothing. Previously Alan and Angela have travelled to places such as LA, Paris, Barcelona, Shanghai and India to search high and low for exclusive garments.

Things of Desire also have their own label of jeans, T.O.D, which are in demand by customers from all around the world.

As well as an array of delectable clothes, shoes and handbags, Things of Desire stocks an intrinsic range of jewellery. All hand-made, labels include Tataborello (Italy), Tribu (France) and Circo (Madrid).

Every brand in Things of Desire are exclusive to Canberra.

“We want to make fashion enjoyable for people and we want the women we dress to feel empowered” says Angela.

“We’ve revolutionised the way a lot of women in Canberra dress, which is very rewarding”.
