Fashion and science may seem like two things that have little correlation, but for a group of local ANU engineering students, it’s been the source of success.

Since ‘Cyanide’ was launched as a university project earlier this year, it’s evolved into a local business, with the young engineers channelling their love of science into bright slogans on tees and hoodies.

Daniel Kiley is one fourth of Cyanide (completed by Brad, Nathan and Ewen) and places great emphasis on the brand’s green values.

“Cyanide Clothing won the Young Achievement Australia Tertiary Environmental Sustainability Award for the ACT and Southern NSW Region,” Daniel said.

The Cyanide team made some big decisions to ensure strong environmental performance, including the use of 100% biodegradable soy and vegetable based inks in their prints.

“We’ve employed textile factories that have waste water treatment plants and host the Cyanide Clothing website on wind powered green servers.”

Although scientifically minded, Daniel admits that he doesn’t have much interest in fashion, saying that he’d be happy wearing tracksuit pants.

“Brad, Nathan and Ewen are the fashion forward force.”

Cyanide clothing features bright and cheerful science related graphics and is available for purchase online and in local stores soon.
