Local crafty duo, Lee Dewar and mother, Hanny, are avid recyclers.

“When I was younger I used to cut into my clothes I no longer wanted to wear, customisng necklines and cutting hems on skirts to make something different for myself,” said Lee.

Lee and Hanny are the creators of Re-Loved, a collective of Canberrans committed to sustainable fashion through recycled and reusing materials. “We also promote local designers using these methods in their practice by holding annual fashion parades.”

Re-Loved: Re-Vamped is set to take place on Thursday 30 September at Craft ACT. “This will be the third event of its kind, hopefully with more to come in the future.”

The Re-Loved sustainable concept was born when Lee and Hanny attended a Salvation Army fashion parade. “Hanny initially had the idea of getting other designers on board, and it grew from there. Each Re-Loved parade is different, and we hope the concept evolves with each venture, getting bigger and more popular.”

The concept has been received well by Canberrans, and Lee says that the interest has sprung from a demand for local ethically made fashion and design.

“With every event we hold, we have people asking about our work, or other designers wanting to take on the challenge of creating their own collection made from recycled sources, so the project is self-sufficient in its own way.”

Re-Loved: Re-Vamped will take place at 6pm, Thursday 30 September at Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre. Entry is free.
