After a brief halt over the Christmas period, it’s full-steam-ahead for down at Kingston Foreshore, with a slew of venues opening up and taking advantage of the warm weather.

For those who make their way from Eastlake Parade through to the waterfront area, there’s plenty on offer. Most importantly, Kingston Foreshore is getting very close to realising its promise of a true lakeside entertainment precinct.

Visitors may not the jetties are not yet filled with pleasure-craft. In the meantime, bicycles are the most likely form of transport you are likely to spot since Remedy – the latest offering from Lonsdale Street Traders’ main man Alistair Evans – opened its doors recently. Remedy joins 38 Espresso as the destinations for coffee aficionados.

Those with a hankering for silky smooth chocolate will be excited by the arrival of Canberra’s second Max Brenner outlet. Known for applying their philosophy to everything from waffles through to martinis, there’s certainly something for every chocoholic down by the water.

While those keen on a wine or beer have made the most of the afternoon sun down at C Dine Bar, one of the pioneers of the Kingston Foreshore Precinct, finally there is a stand-alone bar with a laser-sharp focus on the cocktails, wines and craft beers. Rum Bar, just next door to Max Brenner. Opened by Gil Miller, previously of the George Harcourt Hotel, Rum Bar takes its product so seriously you can even try a nip of Bundy from a bottle valued at $4,000 (please do… and then tell us what it was like!).

If you’re serious about seafood and meat, you could do no better than the aforementioned C Dine Bar. Owners Shann Howman and Dan Keogh bring the best produce to the fore, with the freshest oysters, fish and prawns along with mouth-watering aged beef. For those looking for a taste of Thai, Morks puts a spin on traditional flavours, while Chong Co presents itself as a more traditional purveyor of the cuisine.

Next due down on the Foreshore is La Rustica, bringing the warmth of family-style Italian cooking down from their previous location on Kennedy Street in Kingston. An organic café/restaurant named Daily Press is also in the works. We look forward to hearing more about that one.

It’s looking like a good year down at Kingston Foreshore, and it will be great to watch existing venues settle in over the next twelve months, while the new arrivals find their feet. Be sure to spend a summer’s evening there sometime soon – there are plenty of options for everyone!
