Just back from holidays after a busy 2010, hip-hop dance crew Justice Crew will take to the stage in a special appearance at Australia Day Live.

The group went from unknowns to virtual superstars overnight last year, having won Australia’s Got Talent and impressing judges and audiences alike with their inventive moves and unbelievable precision.

The crew all danced from a young age, and found it kept them out of trouble.

“When I was young dance was a passion. I was always inspired by Michael Jackson,” says crew member Eman. “I couldn’t stop moving – I had dancing fever!”

With such a large group, it’s hard to imagine egos not getting in the way.

“There is definitely a clash of ego,” he says. “To make it work as a crew we just need to focus on why we’re there. But at times there are definitely fights and arguments because we just see each other all the time.”

Eman was initially a contestant on So You Think You Can Dance as a solo dancer, before entering Australia’s Got Talent with Justice Crew, and thinks the reality TV competitions are a fantastic opportunity for young artists.

“You have to get exposure. Even if you have the talent, if no one can see that talent you can’t go any further,” he says. “It really helped boost my confidence and get out there. It’s made everything possible.”

Following the win, the boys were signed to Sony Music and have now ventured into singing, releasing two singles last year, with hopes in the future for an album.

“A couple of us in the crew could sing but we never thought people would sign us,” he says.
“It gave us a different opportunity and we just wanted to take every opportunity to advance our career.”

And advance their career they hope to do.

“We want to reach the highest point that we can nationally and throughout the world. We just want to keep inspiring young people and getting them to go for it.”
