Headspace 10: Self/reflections is a national secondary school student art exhibition. We invited school based art educators from all states and territories to work with their secondary school level students to explore the Headspace 10 theme, Self/reflections, through portraiture. The work could be in any media and can explore the possibilities of portraiture in the broadest sense.

Works from schools from Years 7/8 through to Year 12 were submitted for consideration, by a panel, for inclusion in the exhibition.

Headspace 10 celebrates ten years of the Headspace project at the National Portrait Gallery and builds on existing relationships with schools, students and educators. The theme is intended to be inclusive, rigorous and engaging for the diverse student community. Underpinning Headspace is the belief that portraiture is a valuable, potent and relevant art form through which students can explore aspects of themselves, their community and their world as it is or as it might be.

Thank you to all teachers and students who have participated in the Headspace project.

The Headspace 10 Self/reflections exhibition of 100 portraits opens Thursday 9 September 2010, then opens daily from 10.00am – 5.00pm.
