From high up on Red Hill, your worries can feel a million miles away. This is just one reason why Little Brother is the perfect place to enjoy time with friends and family while caring a lot less about the daily grind of the city below.

The younger sibling to the smart and sophisticated Onred Restaurant upstairs, Little Brother pays the same attention to detail as its more formal elder, and provides a range of dining options that are as easy to take in as the amazing view.

Everything tastes better with cheese, and it’s always wonderful to see Grilled Haloumi take centre stage. Served with its Mediterranean neighbour – pickled zucchini slices – presents a zesty combination of flavours that is perfect for a light snack. Grab one of these and a crisp beer from the collection of awesome beers from some of Australia’s emerging breweries.

The Bruschetta of Buffalo Mozzarella, with smashed peas and ricotta salata, is a seemingly familiar snack that brings surprising complexity through the combination of ingredients. Light and refreshing, the smashed peas really lift the palate, with the Ricotta adding a creamy mouth-feel. We can see this dish matched with a crisp glass of white, as we look down on Lake Burley Griffin.

Chicken Breast can sometimes be a little dry and flavourless… but not here! Little Brother’s version – marinated in yoghurt and served with cherry tomatoes – ensures all the moisture locked in so the meat simply melts in your mouth. There’s a hint of spice as well – lingering on the palate as you decide when to attack the plate for the next delicious slice.

To finish, there are plenty of offerings via Little Brother’s dessert menu, however the Passionfruit Curd served with meringue, cream and strawberries is hard to go past. By being served in a swing-top jar, the dish really delivers on the café’s playful persona. It’s no gimmick though – the sticky and sweet curd bounces beautifully along with the crispy meringue, while the hint of acid from the strawberries provides balance. It’s a simple combination of flavours that is very well executed.

This is merely a sample of what’s on offer across lunch and dinner (as well as weekend brunch). The wine list is just what is required of a venue popular with locals and tourists alike, with a selection of regional wines as well as fantastic offerings from across Australia and around the world.

No matter what time of year, Little Brother is the perfect place to remind yourself just how beautiful Canberra really is. With a great little Kids’ Menu and everything from Titbits to Pizzas to large meals, you’re sure to fill up on the food as much as the amazing view.
