Tonight, Floriade’s Nightfest throws open the gates for what will surely be another successful season of this much-loved Canberra event. From 6.30pm until late on Saturday, you’ll be treated to comedy, magic, delicious food, amazing circus-style performances and a gorgeous view of Floriade under the lights.
Appearing tonight, Thursday and Friday in the Moonlight Lounge is Luke McGregor, one of Australia’s emerging stand-up talents who has appeared as the eternally nervous Hugh on Working Dog’s Utopia, as well as a star turn in Peter Hellier’s It’s a Date. Luke is remarkably funny, and is one not to miss from this year’s programme.
There’s also one of Australia’s veteran comics set to take to the stage on Saturday and Sunday. Few Australians would be unfamiliar with the work of Tom Gleeson who has been a fixture on the local and International comedy scenes since the late 90s. With a bunch of TV appearances under his belt (as well as a guest spot supporting Louis CK on his tour of Australia), Tom delivers a great night of laughs every time.
However, it’s not all comedy. This year sees the debut of The Balloon Arena that will feature a range of circus-style entertainment with a modern edge. Entertainers such as The Rosetski Brothers, Lumiere, The Cirquaholics and Strings on Fire give an indication of the madness that will ensue. It looks most intriguing, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store.
As well as the stage-based entertainment, there are cooking demonstrations, roving performers, the Ferris Wheel and a whole lot more to discover throughout the beautiful gardens. Who knows what you might find?
With crowds continuing to grow every year, Nightfest has cemented itself as one of the essential events on the city’s social calendar. Given the range of quality entertainment on offer, and the fact that tickets are only $25.00 per person, it’s the best value night out in the city.
