The sun is shining and the weather is sweet. Despite a couple of cool mornings, the days are looking glorious. Get out-and-about this weekend and see the best of Canberra.

1. Style Oasis at Canberra Centre
Friday from 12.00pm. Shows and sessions all weekend

There’s no time like the present to go and splurge a little more than you should on a new wardrobe for spring. If you’re looking for inspirations, go no further than Canberra Centre this weekend as a series of parades and personal styling sessions show you the very best on offer for Spring/Summer 14/15.

2. Koolyeh at Transit Bar
Friday night from 8.00pm. Free entry.

Soul. Reggae. Dub. All the essential ingredients for an evening filled with fat and grinding beats. Head downstairs to Transit and catch Melbourne’s Kooyeh as they take you on a journey through the purple haze.

Originating in The Blue Mountains and now residing in Melbourne, you may doubt their authenticity. Don’t. If they’re good enough to support Julian Marley, then there’s nothing but good times to worry about.

3. Floriade 2014 at Commonwealth Park
Open every day from 9.00am Saturday

It’s been another massive first week for Floriade, as the hordes of floral fanatics flowing across Commonwealth Avenue will attest.

This weekend winds up the Arts and Culture themes for the first week, with plenty on show to keep you amused. Paint some gnomes, try your hand at ikebana, or check out some of the works of CIT students.

4. Gorman House Markets 28th Birthday at Gorman House Braddon
from 10.00am until 4.00pm Saturday.

An absolute institution in Canberra, it’s always great to get out of the city and stroll through the leafy surrounds of the heritage-listed Gorman House. This weekend’s ‘Spring Fling’ sees the usual trinkets on sale, amazing food, a poetry slam, heaps of music, and the opportunity to pick up some fantastic (and cheap!) vintage clothing.

5. Royal Thai Embassy Open Day in Yarralumla.
Sunday from 11.00am

You’ve got to love Canberra. We’re so wonderfully culturally obsessed that Action Buses rearrange their schedule, and there are a whole new range of parking laws just to accommodate an embassy opening.

Mind you, with one of the most vibrant communities in the city, the Royal Thai Embassy Open Day is like few others, and brings swarms of people into the narrow streets to enjoy music, crafts and, of course, the food of Thailand.
