We’ve all heard it before…

Visitors to Canberra arrive and scream “Where are all the pubs?!?!” before being calmly told by locals that there are plenty on offer.

Fortunately, one of the best spots in Canberra is undergoing a massive renovation. On the inside corner of Woolley Street, Dickson, a new gastropub experience is coming, and it’s the best thing to hit Dickson in over a decade.

In fact, it’s the Ducks Nuts!

Yep – that’s the name of the former site of O’Neill’s Pub. While the basic layout will be familiar, the potential of this amazing location has been realised by the owners of Ducks Nuts and they are stepping up the quality of drinks, food, service and décor that promises to become an attraction for all Canberrans looking for a sophisticated pub experience.

_MG_1428A brand new interior
Dressed in bronze and much darker tones than its predecessor, there’s immediately a much greater feeling of warmth and personality. With an interior pulled together by Archertec Interiors, the space has a much more polished feel with a mix of spaces that lend themselves to almost any mood.

Those looking to enjoy the weather outside will be pleased to see the addition of a second beer garden at the back of the venue that is a great spot to enjoy a summer afternoon while remaining protected from the sun.

Craft beers
The centrepiece of the venue is the gorgeous bronze-topped bar. From this, an exciting range of craft beers is ready to be served, and the team at Ducks Nuts have looked across Australia to source stock from some of the country’s most exciting new breweries.

While James Squire’s 150 Lashes Pale Ale is on tap, as well as the hugely popular Three Sheets from Lord Nelson’s Brewery, be sure to grab yourself a taste of the Modus Operandi award winning Pale Ale and Prancing Pony Hopwork Orange from South Australia.

Duck in for a meal_MG_1432
There’s a great sense of humour that runs through the pub, and we loved the fact that there is plenty of duck available on the menu (if not the essential appendage that brings the bar it’s name!).

The duck burger and roast duck salad are just part of a menu that brings together the previous steakhouse style with the more contemporary method of presenting a range of dishes perfectly suited to sharing. In a laid-back and casual pub such as this, it’s a great mix that offers both flavour and choice.

Perfect for a quick lunch, there’s fun to be had in the ‘Mary Had a Little $10.00 Lamb’ menu that will offer $10.00 lunches all week featuring Australia’s favourite meat. Also, from Sunday to Wednesday, there a meal deals that will keep you well-fed without hurting the hip pocket.

Tradition in a modern setting12243528_189104881425549_1262501522593716929_n
Put all this together, add an afternoon happy hour that runs seven days a week, live music and DJs two nights a week, and it’s clear that Ducks Nuts is looking to fill the void of a busy local pub on Canberra’s Northside.

We’re looking forward to seeing the finished product when the big reveal occurs at the launch event on Friday 11 March.
