Dust the snow off your boots…(ok, it doesn’t quite snow here in Canberra, even though we dramatically pretend it does to those interstaters who don’t know any better) this winter seemed to hang around so long we almost turned to ice, wardrobes included. It is finally time move forward, bid farewell to the cooler months and get our summer on!

Spring/summer ranges have been dropping left, right and florally centre over the last few weeks, and the fresh style inspiration is almost as beautiful as the sun rays hitting our weather forecasts at last. It is official – the season has finally changed and so too should your wardrobe. The key trends for summer are wearable, fun and, if your savvy, affordable!

The tea dress
The slip dress is still a big winner from seasons past but for those who prefer more is more, the tea dress is your answer to the summer investment piece this season. Floaty, feminine and oh-so-so Zimmerman, the tea dress will take you to brunch, a garden wedding, stroll along the beach and into night with a classic leather jacket.

Slipper mules
Just a few years ago this would have been laughable, but the slipper mule has slowly walked its way into the mainstream. The relaxed, anti-glam somehow makes the slipper mule glamourous as can be…just how, is anyone’s guess but something about the ease of this style conjures images of a classic, elegant movie star in between sets and we definitely want to buy into that.

Off-shoulder
The off-shoulder trend is going from strength to strength, with crisp cottons in baby blue and dusty pink the pick of the moment. The youthful, playful style injects a little ‘holiday’ into the everyday, giving that summer lovin’ vibe to your wardrobe minus the cheesy Grease ballads. The off-shoulder top has moved well out of tacky territory, with soft romantic styles the play of the day.

Patched denim

Denim is re-imagined every season but remains a constant in our rotating wardrobes. There is a playful new way to do denim this season, with iron-on patches popping up everywhere. Oh Lincraft, we apologise for our flailing loyalty the last few craft-less years but we are finally coming back for you.

Embroidery and patchwork are also being splashed across our denim staples, looks like it’s time to embrace your inner teen, whip out the needle and thread and get creative. Kitsch? Maybe…but fun? You betcha!
