The saying goes that if you love your job, you’ll never work a day in your life. The same applies with exercise, and if you find something you really love, working out should form part of your life, as opposed to something you dread.

It was this general philosophy that inspired Mic Longhurst to launch Dynamic Motivation. As well as offering the standard personal training, the motivation and fitness company with a difference also offer sessions of adventure sports including mountain biking and kayaking.

Mic has combined his background in personal training, sports coaching, adventure sports and a corporate career to provide a service offering with a more holistic approach to an active lifestyle.

“For many people, boot camps are like a fad diet – they don’t find them to be that much fun, and after they do their two months they stop again,” says Mic.

“With activities like mountain biking, you tend to get more involved and make it a part of your life.”

Mic stresses the importance of an all-round approach to fitness, and says that the Dynamic Motivation sessions can also provide mental relaxation.

“It’s hard to stay stressed when you’re paddling a kayak on the lake or riding a mountain bike in the forest.”

Mic likens training to superannuation, and says that a small investment over a longer period really can pay off.

“People understand the concept of contributing to their financial super. Unless they just want that money to go to their kids, they also need to make an investment in their health,” he says.

“The outcome is reflective of what you invest.”

And while some may find the idea of adventure sports confronting, Mic says that the training is suitable for all levels of fitness and skill, from beginners to experienced athletes.

“I have one client who wants to try mountain biking, but she’s never learnt to ride a bike,” he says.

“Our first session was teaching her how to ride a bike.”
