Du Jour owner and executive chef Chris Ross is overwhelmed by the positive response the restaurant has experienced since opening only five months ago.

Located in the beautifully restored and stylish New Acton Pavilion, Du Jour provides a fresh and exciting mix of modern Australian cuisine with French and Asian influences in a colourful contemporary space.

Originally a pastry chef by trade, Chris is enjoying the experience of being a new restaurant owner in Canberra.

“There are more great restaurants in Canberra than people think,” he said.

And Du Jour certainly is one of Canberra’s finest new restaurants.

Even though all of the chefs at Du Jour have been trained in fine dining, the restaurant prefers to be classified as smart casual dining. Attracting to a wide range of clients including families, business people, students, travellers and groups, the aim of the restaurant is to have customers coming back again and again.

“Fine dining is often reserved for special occasions, I prefer to see groups of people coming in regularly to enjoy the food and atmosphere,” Chris said.

Important to Chris in opening Du Jour was the knowledge of all kinds of cuisine and cooking. For him, being a pastry chef is one of his greatest passions which requires art and creativity.

Du Jour is the ideal new setting for a relaxed morning or afternoon coffee break. Chris believes producing fresh pastries and cakes fresh every day leaves greater room for flexibility and creativity at the start of each day.

“We don’t use any premixes which means everything is beautiful and fresh. You are restricted to what you can do if you get everything in from somewhere else, but because we make everything here, if we want to change things, we can!”

Further plans for Du Jour in the upcoming months include branching into the wine tour market for the Canberra region, bringing more focus on promoting the capital as a great place to get a good meal.

With a new head chef and a revamped menu, Du Jour is ready now to move into spring and summer with plenty of tempting menu choices and a comfortable and chic ambience.
