Former Canberra Raiders captain Alan Tongue is calling on Canberrans to take part in the city’s largest ever free outdoor boot camp at Floriade.

The Raiders legend turned fitness instructor will run the free event on Saturday 11 October and is calling on the community to come down and enjoy a workout.

“Spring is such a great time in Canberra and the perfect period of the year to be outdoors and exercising,” Tongue said.

“Floriade is such an iconic outdoor event in Canberra and I jumped at the chance to run the city’s largest ever free boot camp. It would be great to pack out the grass in front of Stage 88 on a Saturday morning, so I look forward to seeing as many people down there as possible.”

The boot camp will be held from 9.15am-10.15am on Saturday morning and registrations for the event are now open online. Register for your chance to win two personal training sessions with Alan Tongue.

Floriade’s Big Outdoor Boot Camp will feature as part of Outdoors and Adventure week, which runs from Monday 6 October until Sunday 12 October.

In the final week of Floriade visitors can get up close and personal with nature, learn about some of the world’s most endangered animals, take part in sustainability workshops and grab gardening tips from experts in the field, while Barry Du Bois, from Network TEN’s The Living Room, will wow visitors with his DIY demonstrations.

Floriade returns to Commonwealth Park for its 27th year from Saturday, September 13 until Sunday, October 12, offering yet another fantastic program of events inspired by the 2014 theme, Passion.

In addition to the beautiful flower displays, visitors to Australia’s biggest celebration of spring can pick up gardening tips from experts in the field, listen to inspiring musical performances, enjoy culinary demonstrations by world-renowned chefs and keep the kids entertained with an exciting line up of entertainment.

Floriade NightFest will also return from Wednesday 24 September until Sunday 28 September, transforming Commonwealth Park into an illuminated wonderland for five magical nights.

The ticketed twilight event will feature astonishing lighting shows, famous comedians, roving entertainment and bustling night markets.
