The search for Canberra’s next top models is just around the corner—23 February on a makeshift catwalk in the award-winning East Hotel. So if you’re model material, or know someone who is, then this call is for you.

The model call is for FASHFEST, Canberra’s biggest fashion event which is now approaching its second year on the runway. The red-carpet event will be held 30 April to 3 May so block out all four nights in your diary. Tickets will go on sale much earlier this year and co-founders Clint and Andrea Hutchinson are hoping to sell out to 1,000 guests a night.

Although news of the call has just been released, Andrea, who is also FASHFEST’s model director, says it’s going to be hot and expects the scene to be something you’d expect to see on the Next Top Model TV show.

‘We’re hoping to attract at least 60 to apply, men and women—including models of different nationalities and plus-size models—and already have close to that number applying,” says Andrea. “Most models will have done photo shoots, but being in front of a camera and on a catwalk in front of a panel of judges is an entirely different scenario.”

Andrea, a former model from Switzerland, knows models have to have nerves of steel to handle themselves well on a catwalk, including in four-inch heels (for the women anyway).

“Many want to look, dress and be like a model. But to do that, they need to learn to walk like a model. It requires good posture, balance and technique to make it look easy and to leave a lasting impression,” says Andrea, who will be on the judging panel.

One of FASHFEST’s main aims is to support models through quality training and other support, so even models without a huge amount of experience are encouraged to line up for their chance to shine.

FASHFEST’s model casting will be held Sunday 23 February at 1.00pm sharp. You must register by emailing [email protected] with your full name, measurements and photograph.
