Calling all Canberra filmmakers. This is your chance to conceive and direct a short film to be showcased at the biggest red-carpet fashion event on the capital’s annual social calendar.

FASHFEST 2016 has just shouted out to filmmakers to create six original films reflecting this year’s six event themes (the themes are still hush hush).

FASHFEST is looking for filmmakers prepared to push boundaries with strong concepts and who have what it takes to transform those concepts into a memorable guest experience.

This is all about FASHFEST being a major platform for creative industries, including film, music, sound, lighting, hair, makeup and, of course, fashion design. And now is your chance to have your original film kick start of a runway show.

Award-winning By George Studios co-founder, Georgina Jenkins, says filmmakers must be prepared to be bold, strong and original with their concepts and direction. By George Studios is a major FASHFEST sponsor.

“This is, after all, about adding another layer to what the event offers,” Jenkins says.

“Filmmakers must link the theme to Canberra, inspiring the audience to see Australia’s capital from a different vantage point. Each film has to also integrate a music track from one of the official musicians selected for the 2016 event.”

Filmmakers will receive $1,000 from FASHFEST to support production. They’ll also be provided with public liability insurance from The ACT Screen Industry Association and the CIT Student Association’s Fresh2Go will make sure everyone on set is watered and fed.

“FASHFEST is a great opportunity to develop and showcase local talent,” Jenkins adds.

“Applicants must be over 18 years of age and preference will be given to Canberra regional filmmakers.”

FASHFEST 2016 will host six shows, each curated around a theme.

“This means every show is truly unique,” FASHFEST co-founder Andrea Hutchinson says.

“If you want to go more than one night — and many people do — you’re guaranteed a different experience each time.”

The creative brief for the shout out to filmmakers is on the FASHFEST website. Get those cameras in action.
