The clock is ticking as Canberra counts down to the biggest day on the local racing calendar. Thousands are expected to flock to Thoroughbred Park on Sunday for the 43rd running of the Seppelt Black Opal Stakes.

So, are you ready for the big day?

Elegant dress or a snappy suit? Check.
Hairpiece? Check.
Friends, a hamper and a love of a great day out at the track? Check, check, check!

If you’re a keen fan of horseracing, you’ll be excited to know the feature race has been elevated to Group 3 status – which is a great win for local racing. For others that favour the awesome social side of the Seppelt Black Opal Stakes day, they know that it’s about so much more. All day long there will be live entertainment (featuring Canberra’s favourite party band – Big Boss Groove) and amazing food as well as plenty of opportunities to try you luck with a punt on any of the eight races across the program.

One of the highlights every year is the Myer Fashions on the Field competition. If you’re among the crowd’s best dressed, expect to be invited to the stage to show off your fine fashions for a chance to share in $16,000 worth of prizes.

Everyone is in with a chance, with a number of categories including:
• Classic Ladies
• Classic Men’s Racewear, and
• Millinery
This year, the gorgeous Kate Peck, MTV VJ and a Myer Ambassador and Model will be judging the entries. The pressure is on, Canberra… It’s time to show Australia what we’ve got!

With all this colour and excitement, there’s just one thing left to do… Grab your Instagram to capture every moment of your day. Simply tag your posts with #blackopalstakes (or tag @throroughbredpk and @seppeltwines on Twitter) before 3.00pm and you could be in with a chance to win a double pass into the beautiful Seppelt Marquee to enjoy canapés, Salinger sparkling wine and great music from local DJs. We had a sneak peak at it last week, and we can guarantee you this is THE place to watch all the action on the track.

Don’t leave your decisions to the last minute. Grab your tickets now from Ticketek, or pick them up at the door for $25.00. Gates open at 11.30 and Children under 18 are free.
