The 2014 Canberra Comedy Festival is back again due to such a successful year in 2013 and kicks off on Tuesday 4 March with the Opening Night Gala being held at the Canberra Theatre.

We recently took five with comedian Sammy J who is here on 5 March performing his show The Sammy J Songbook. He is a musical comedian who has been nominated for not just one, but two ARIA awards for his hilarious, witty and creative shows – which very often sell-out quickly!

1) What can we expect from your new show for Canberra Comedy Festival?
The finest selection of my favourite songs spanning the years 2004 – 2014, including controversial works composed in the heady experimental days of 2007.

2) What is the best/worst heckle you’ve ever received?
“You’re ruining the funeral.”

3) Have you been to Canberra before? What’s your favourite place to go/thing to do?
Countless times. I love driving up Red Hill and making out with chicks and talking about Walter Burley Griffin and shopping in Manuka and stuff like that. Normally I make out with about twelve chicks when I’m up Red Hill but lately I’ve been trying to double that figure. I find talking about Walter Burley Griffin does all the heavy lifting and then I pretty much just sit back and get kissed by a procession of girls as the sun sets over Manuka.

4) What question do you always wish would get asked in interviews, but you’ve never been asked?
“How do you maintain such youthful exuberance and boundless energy?”

5) And your answer to the above?
Steroids.

Sammy J is performing his show, The Sammy J Songbook, at 7:00pm on Wednesday 5 March and Thursday 6 March at the Canberra Theatre Centre, Courtyard Studio. Click here to visit www.canberracomedyfestival.com.au for tickets and more information.
