Fashion label WND.LND was launched in late 2013 by local designer, Zoe Brown. Since graduating from The Canberra Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Design in 2011, Zoe has interned for New Zealand label Stolen Girlfriends Club and Australian Lover The Label. At the same time, she has kept busy being very hands-on with her label, working on many freelance styling projects, exhibitions, markets and events, and completely immersing herself in the creative process.
WND.LND (pronounced Won-der-land)
“Creating a wonderland where you don’t know the rules, the guides or the danger, but you wanna play anyway!” – This reflects WND.LND’s aesthetic of creating your own reality though fashion, pushing boundaries and having fun with fashion. Combining an innate quirkiness of doll-like femininity mixed with a bit of youth culture rebellion and a street-wear edge is the recipe for her designs.
Zoe is an extension of her label WND.LND…or perhaps WND.LND is an extension of her! She has such innovative style and rocks it without even an hint of insecurity. It’s a style that works and it’s no wonder that Zoe has been officially selected as one of the designers who will launch a new collection at FASHFEST (29 April to 3 May).
Here’s a fun little Q&A we had with Zoe recently…
Q. Thinking back on 2013, what goals have you achieved that you are most proud of?
I guess really taking on my label to a full production. I can now create samples and really see them into a reality by having a great team for manufacturing! I made a few large risks last year, and I feel they have really worked out for the label. This has also enabled me to secure my first stockiest – Lady Petrova in Melbourne!
Q. What is on the agenda for WND.LND in 2014?
I will be launching the website in the coming weeks! I am super excited that customers will be able to purchase my items online! I will be picking up my WINTER 14 samples tomorrow and starting an amazing collaboration with an artist for my next Summer collection.
A few facts just for fun:
I would love to travel to THE WORLD (USA, China, Hungary) because I have always wanted to eat my way through America and thrift shop my heart away. China for awesome fashion sourcing and inspiration. Hungary to visit my partner’s Grandma!
My heaven-on-earth is playing with my pet Myra.
If I could have one thing in the whole world it would be fairness to animals because they aren’t able to voice their opinions or have power like we do (Vego rant!).
My favourite designer is Meadham Kirchoff, Jeremy Scott, Lady Petrova because of their theatrical collections.
The greatest risk I ever took was when I jumped on a plane and went to Bali! I was never into the Bali hype, but since then I’ve been twice – and I’m planning to go again in March. I also made some great connections there and my closest friends.
