Have you been to Eye Candy Optical? Located in the Mode 3 building on Lonsdale Street in Braddon, it’s the only place you’ll find designer, edgy and super stylish sunglasses and spectacles in Canberra. The awesome yellow couch, classic Vespa, and toy robots decorating the shelves show the fun side of optometry.

Eye Candy set up shop in Braddon last year and has cemented a trendy reputation. Who is your core demographic?

Individual and stylish Canberrans looking for quality and service above all else, from the eye examination, through to the frame selection. We are one of a few independent optometrists bringing new cutting-edge eyewear to Canberra and challenging the boring conformity of the established chains.

What are the most important things you look for when buying for the store? Does Eye Candy have certain guidelines that fit in with its own brand?

Eyecandy carefully selects frames from smaller artisan frame designers from around the world, which are interesting, stylish and functional. Our collections aren’t mass produced and are hand picked by us; we learnt that if a frame doesn’t excite us, it will not excite you.

Which designers are you most excited about having in store for both spectacles and sunglasses?

All our collections are the sweetest eyewear around, but our current favourites are; Thom Browne, Vinylize, Fritz, Dita Eyewear and Chrome Hearts.

Will any new designers be joining Eyecandy’s already impressive line-up this year?

We are always looking for new and exciting brands to introduce to our clients, with new stock arriving every couple of months. Some designers to look out for in the near future will be the latest Celine collection arriving from Paris, Retro Superfuture and Yohji Yamamoto.

Do you have any other stores in Canberra?

While Eyecandy is the only store of its kind, we are a part of the Langley Pino Group.

We absolutely love the fit-out and décor. Did you ladies have much input in the décor?

Yes, we had great fun selecting pieces for our fit-out and our décor is a continually changing collaboration between all team members. We always have new pieces appearing on the shelves and throughout the store.

What three words best describe Eye Candy?

Unique. Fun. Fashionable

What is in store for Eye Candy Optical in 2015?

Getting out and about in our local community and working with and supporting more charities.

Travelling the world and meeting new frame designers to introduce new and exciting collections to Canberra.

Hosting designer collection evenings where we showcase an entire collection with the frame designers in attendance, drinks and canapés – a great event.
