Akmal is back in Canberra this week, touring his brand new show ‘Akmal is Lost’. We grabbed a couple of quick minutes with the popular Aussie comedian prior to his show on Thursday night.

This is your second time at the Canberra Comedy Festival, are you excited to come back?

Yes I’m excited and surprised that they asked me back after what happened last year (don’t ask…). I can only apologies to the members of the audience and hope that you’re recovering well.

What can audiences expect from your new show?

Each member of the audience will spend 10 minutes with me in a private booth. Every time they laugh they will be expected put money down my pants. I call this lap comedy.

Do you have any fond memories of Canberra from years gone past?

Many years ago, before the British arrived it was such a lovely place. If only we had better border protection. (Thats right, I’m now Indigenous. Let’s see how that works out for me.)

You’re a novelist, a film-maker and a stand-up comedian. What do you love to do most?

Pleasuring my self, then sleep.

You are well regarded as a master of crowd work, particularly for dealing with hecklers in a hilarious way. Do you have any favourite heckler or crowd moments?

I have a regular who heckles me about three nights a week with heckles like” GET OFF!” My wife.
