It’s a singles night … but not as you know it.

Canberra’s favourite vinyl event is celebrating four and a half years of vintage partying with a free event focusing exclusively on 7-inch singles.

Vinyl Lounge: Singles Night at the National Film and Sound Archive lets you bring your own 7-inch singles or choose one from the Vinyl Lounge catalogue to keep the music pumping into the night.

Aussie greats will include Sherbet, John Paul Young, Olivia Newton-John and Helen Reddy, while international artists will range from Suzi Quatro to Barbra Streisand.

Vinyl Lounge host and NFSA sound curator Thorsten Kaeding said the 7-inch single was the way “most of us oldies” started our record collections.

“They were affordable and had the song you were crazy about at the time,” Thorsten said.

“If you were lucky they might even have a great b-side that would lead you to explore the artist further. They also had the added benefit of driving the rest of your family crazy as you played it over and over again!”

Vinyl Lounge regulars and newcomers are welcome to share music stories, meet fellow analogue collectors, and enjoy drinks and snacks at this free event on Friday 1 June.
